Being 1,600 miles away from family on a holiday could be somewhat depressing if I did not have work to distract me a bit. Thankfully, I am getting paid a good amount of scratch today (and tomorrow) to sit here and type this blog post. News is always slow on Thanksgiving, minus the mayhem in Mumbai of course. Local news though, bit of a snore.
First, a quick reflection on the day. You know how this works, a laundry list of “I am thankful” stuff. I’m not going to do any of that. Just a succint and all-encompassing “Thanks” for everything I have right now. My family, my job, my apartment, the cool city I get to live in and my (almost) level 80 Dwarven Hunter…huzzah!
Now, on to random happenings.
At work, I did had another one of those moments that, perhaps only I noticed, but stung a little. First
of all, the newsroom is dead. The bare minimum of people are here to keep things moving. Two reporters, an editor and an online guy (me). A woman I work with (a very attractive one I might add), came over to ask some dating advice. Now there is me and two other males in the room, both of which are married.
Woman sits down and specifically asks these two guys, who have been married for quite some, advice on a lame dating rule. Not only that, she puts her back to me. I was either intentionally, or perhaps unintentionally, excluded from the conversation. Whether intentional or not, it means that this woman thinks I have nothing to add to the conversation, I am insignificant. Even though I probably have more recent familiarity with the situation than the two married guys, my thoughts on the matter are apparently immaterial.
I know I shouldn’t think too much on this, but this is someone who is around my age, someone I would consider a peer. But, judging from this little incident, I get the feeling that this person sees me as a child or simply not important. And again, this wouldn’t be that much of a thing to pontificate on if I didn’t talk to this person often. I thought we had a little bit of a bond here, apparently not.
That kind of kicked me in the balls today.
Anyway, Happy Thanksgiving. Have a good one.
